SITE STRUCTURE

This resource comprises a number of different sites:

• Web 2.0 4U (for educators)
• a series of Cyber Issues forums
• E-Rock companion site (for students)
• Cyber Guides Delicious Site
• E-Rock Social Network
• E-Rock Your Say Forum

By constructing different parts of the resource in different applications we sought
to learn as much as possible about the capabilities of a range of Web 2.0 applications, and to demonstrate the features of these applications.

This approach also allowed us to fractal the connectivity of the web within our resource.

DEVELOPMENT

The two main sites are developed in and hosted by Yola. This application was chosen because of its simplicity, its flexibility of layout, the range of features it offered (Meebo chat, RSS feed, and the capacity to embed video clips and our Voki Cyber Guide) and the absence of distracting advertising.

The E-Rock social network was developed in Ning because it offered the capacity to develop a range of groups within a social network, and offered a wide range of features such as polls, blogs, chat, forums, photo and video sharing, and RSS feed.

The site grew with our understanding of Web 2.0 

As we discovered more about the capabilities of Web 2.0 applications, further site components were added, including Cyber Guide's Delicious site and Twitter account, a series of educator forums hosted in Ning, and the E-Rock Your Say Forum (and showcase) for the student site.
